Various Artists - 100% Dynamite! Dancehall Reggae Meets Rap in New York City (Album)

DJs and music lovers get down on your knees and praise Soul Jazz Records for continuing to release some of the finest soul/funk/reggae/roots compilations available.

Their latest accomplishment is 100% Dynamite! Dancehall Reggae Meets Rap in New York City – and if it doesn’t make you wanna shake your moneymaker than you shouldn’t be listening to music.

The perfect addition to your summer playlist, this comp has some top Dancehall/Rap faves lined up for your party pleasure - Supercat, Yankee B, Roots Radics, Born Jamericans, Fu Schnickens, Ugly Man and even Mr Lover Lover (Shaggy) features with a surprisingly good track called Mattress Jockey .

Originating in the late 70s, Dancehall was and still is a far cry from the Rastafarian influenced Reggae. By the mid 80s, Dancehall was largely based on digital sounds, spectacular sampling, driving rhythms, and anti-establishment lyrics dealing with everything from money and sex, to violence and social issues. It’s easy to see why some consider Dancehall to be the ‘Mother of Hip-Hop’, and this compilation which incorporates the influence of rap in New York City makes for an easy transition between the two.

I have to say when I first put this compilation on, I felt like I’d just downed three shots of tequila and been shoved out into a party full of people. It’s not easy listening, but it’s damn good music and if you have been hanging out for a dance this summer, BUY THIS ALBUM!
