infusion 2-player game single

Part of the Presets-led battalion of glorious electro-pop, Melbournian trio Infusion produce infinitely danceable, delectable bites of pop-tastic electro-candy. Newest single, 2-Player Game, is no exception. The track is dedicated to the circa 1980s enrapture with proto-multiplayer gaming: the large boxy consoles, so disdained in the 90s, are now usually to be found in milk bars and pool halls worldwide, functioning as a badge of retro-cool for any self-respecting urbanite indie club.

Another drug-addled Saturday night on King St, another phat bassline synth, backed by lyrics simple to sing ‘n slur after a number of those inevitable sugary energy drinks loaded with something stronger than Jim ‘n Cola. Of course, like a night out on the tiles in the less salubrious reaches of town, the track inevitably links to sex. This is undoubtedly because there’s nothing sexier than a hot nerd in day-glo rainbow pants showing off his pogo moves. Ah, the hipsters of today. Lucky the track’s so darn addictive, or I would have to strike it forever from my iPod for that particular mental image. As it stands, I can rate it nine out of ten for strut-worthy appeal down Swanston Street. Game On!

B-side So Soon is, perhaps inevitably, an affair of smoother moves. Every super-fizzy dance track needs its cruisy, luscious club come-down to smooth the ride to the bottom. Sparse, crooning lyrics swathed in sublime vocoder-tinged bluesy tones make this track a sweet Sunday morning delight. Energised halfway through by fuzzy electro bass leaves one feeling cleansed, add to which one part disjointed electric-piano echo to remind one of last night’s joyful excesses. A reviving hangover brekkie of a tune. The tracks combine to create a taster in polarities, leaving that sweet, smooth sensation on the tongue that has you wanting more, more, more!
