Kings of Leon - Because of the Times

It’s true that good things come out of Tennessee. They were famous for Elvis, Samuel L. Jackson, and even pro wrestler Ric Flair. Now they can add another name to the list, the Kings of Leon.

Fresh out of the recording studio, the latest effort by the Kings of Leon is certainly an album to be respected, and replayed over, and over again. The third effort from the Followill family (3 brothers and a cousin) took over a year to make, but was defiantly worth the wait. The much anticipated release had us salivating as the first single, as “On Call” made its debut on Triple J. All we needed now was another 11 or so songs.

For no particular reason, most of the songs seemed to fit into with my mood over the last month. For starters, the album is pretty damn chilled out. Apart from Charmer, where Caleb lets loose with a plethora of screams, there isn’t much grunge, or hard, distorted guitar. Lots of funky riffs make this an awesome album to jam too as well, if you happen to have a couple of mates with guitars, and a drum kit yourself.

Whilst maybe a different style to the days of “Youth and Young Manhood”, the album holds itself in high esteem, and easily grabs my branding of an ‘all killer no filler’ affair. As much as I would love to, I won’t crap on about every song, you will just have to take my word for it, and make your next purchase ‘Because of the Times.’

Probably one of the best Indie bands going around at the present time, it should be with great anticipation that we wait for news of the next Kings tour. With their fourth album already being produced (yes that’s right, already!) it seems the Followill boys are wasting no time in getting their message across, that they are a truly great band. Check out your nearest CD store, heck, go to your nearest vinyl store and get it on vinyl...it will go down as one of the classics!
