Cyndi Lauper - Bring Ya To The Brink (Album)
Proving that girls still just wana have fun, at the ripe young age of 55years, Cyndi Lauper has released album number 10! The girl having fun in this album will feel like a hug from your past. I’ll readily admit that I haven’t been a die hard follower of Lauper but every time she cranks out a hit I love her a little bit more. This album has pushed me over the edge to Mystalking, oh, umm I mean adding her on Myspace.
Bring Ya To The Brink could have almost been released as a ‘best of compilation’; I do mean that in the best way possible. It has a little bit of 80’s dance for ‘old school’ Cyndi Lauper fans and some electronica dance tracks bound to get the attention of the ‘noughties’ club dwellers.
The first single from the album is Same Ol' Story and it does have a bit of a Girls Just Wanna Have Fun feel about it, but when every DJ is still spinning it and mixing it why shouldn’t the artist have a go too? And her unique ‘Lauper sound’ has evolved to meet demands of the noughties music era. If its been a while since you sported the pumping-fist-in-the-air action coupled with uncoordinated jumping around then give this track a turn, I guarantee you’ll still be tapping your feet and humming “and it’s the same ol fucking story, you know damn well its true” long after the song is finished.
Her voice would have to be one of the most recognisable and often mimicked among female singers worldwide and it is a predominant feature on Bring Ya to the Brink. Especially in Set Your Heartand Give it Up,Laupers voice makes these songs stand out tracks for me.
Pop, Rock, Dance and reinvented 80’s music (which lets be honest, is back with a vengeance at the moment) add this album to your Cyndi Lauper or ‘chick rock’ collection.
