Lamb - Build a Fire

“Build a Fire” is the first single to be released by trip-hop/electro duo, Lamb off their fifth studio record, '5'. Along with the stunningly arranged original version, Lamb has called in the talents of some renowned and respected artist to rework and remix in their own unique ways.

The LOWB remix, otherwise known as Andy Barlow’s second take, injects the track with a massive load of synth and transforms the original into a song way more driven by the bass and beats – a piece of work which harks back to some of the duo’s earlier material, in my mind.

Another remix which I particularly enjoyed was the one done by Italian producer Gaudi. His work with “Build a Fire” turns the softer original into a thumping electro number, with the eerie, ethereal element Lou Rhodes’ vocals given an electrifying enhancement. This isn’t hard, of course, considering that Rhodes’ vocal talent has always been one of the main things to stand out about Lamb’s compositions.

There is a great deal of reinterpretation and fiddling around with the original track featured in this package, but as usual, Ms Rhodes and Mr Barlow have provided another great piece of music to begin with. I can’t wait to hear the rest of the album.
