Sydney-based songstress Bertie Blackman is an individual with a very distinct image and sound, and a special gift for writing honest lyrics. Being a prolific songwriter, she often finds herself being compared to other inspirational female artists such as Bjork, PJ Harvey and Patti Smith.

Bertie has just come off a tour to promote her latest single 'Fast Bitch', from her much anticipated sophomore album Black released last October. I’m not exactly sure what this song is about but I thought I’d have a stab anyway. She is talking about a break up and all though she is dying inside with pain; she wants to go out and party to try and help her move on as she is “red red hot”, sometimes feeling as though this isn’t the right thing to do.

Fast Bitch is a very electric rock-guitar driven track, which shows off her individual sound. Her raw and soulful sound is reflected in the track and is also evident in her live shows, which I was lucky enough to witness at the beginning of the year. The single also features two live B-Sides of 'Hold Me Close' and a cover of Nine Inch Nails' 'Closer'.
