Garden, the debut EP from Melbourne chanteuse Rosaline Yuen, is all about love lost and found and the incessant yearning that goes along with it.

Adding to the ever-growing pantheon of Australian female singer songwriters, Yuen (who was recently unearthed by JJJ) is more Delta than Missy, exuding a kind of wispy melancholia that definitely comes from the Kate Bush school of tortured artistry.

But it’s not all sullen, inward angst on Garden. Yuen vamps it up on the sultry jazz number Where Do We Go From Here - a song that bears more than just a passing nod to Cab Calloway’s Minnie The Moocher.

Yuen also tries her hand at an acoustic soul type number on Love Love Love with some degree of success. The result is a sweetly soulful paean to; you guessed it, love - reminiscent of a more commercial Joan as Policewoman.

Overall, Garden is a competent debut release from a performer who is sure to make her mark in the world of AOR.
