Gun Street Girls - Gun Street Girls (Album)
» Gun Street Girls launch new album, national tour - August 3, 2009
Dave Rueben Larkin is the singer we know and love from the well known band called Dallas Crane (formerly Tempered King), who have taken a hiatus at present, so for the moment Dave has put his cookies into a rock and roll line up and we are blessed with the grooves ofGun Street Girls. Dave on vocals and guitar, Dave Butterworth (Double Agents) on bass and backing vocals and Callum John Barter(Ancient Free Gardeners) on drums and backing vocals.
Gun Street Girl’s first offering is a self titled album full of rock that is raw, country, old school, harmonised and full of riffs. First off the album is their initial single release How I Roll, a country rock song with raw guitar riffs and this song sets the pace for the rest of the album. Don’t expect to find sassy pop rock songs like Dallas Crane. There are still plenty of songs that have the edge of Dave’s voice present but this album has the rest of the band bringing with it some good ole school rock and roll.
One Slip Away has smooth vocals that turn edgy at times and a catchy chorus to boot, then the vocals turn to draw out the words One Slip Away. The Mission is a groovy song with top drum beats that cruise till the guitar joins the lyrics ‘Some fellow made a wreck of her now there is hole where there used to be a heart’, Dave’s vocals are true here and the harmonies suit the song - a real toe tapper of a song and you are taken into the ‘magic carpet ride’. Harmonies at the end are a great surprise and this could well be the next single. Right Under The Wind is a slower rock song with lots of crooning style screaming. Halfway To The Grave has Dave eating up the lyrics and The May Disease has an imaginative guitar instrumental. The Borderline feels like an ACDC song, plenty of raw vocals sung with that style of Brian Johnston, and including some heavy guitar riffs.
I’m not sure where the band got its name from but coincidentally Tom Waits sings a song called Gun Street Girl about a guy who is having trouble with the law and he traces it back to a girl he once met on Gun Street.
The Gun Street Girls album is out July 2009, I suggest you do yourself a favour and buy it.
