how to lose friends and alienate people

Ask any iPod owner how to lose friends and alienate people, and they will probably tell you – “Put some dialogue snippets in your movie sound-track…”

So, to all you shuffling white headphonites out there, calm down, and simply try listening to the How to Lose Friends and Alienate People OST on your trusty old CD player. You’ll then hear tunes and grabs in the order they intended, much better!

The CD (as one would hope the movie does) makes for a compelling journey – with twists, unexpected mood-changes, and a definite trans-Atlantic vibe going on.

At a guess, a song like Robyn’s With Every Heartbeat will pop up somewhere in this boy-meets-girl flick. Google says yes - although apparently a different remix to that on the soundtrack. The Killers and Scissor Sisters are about the only others to keep Commercial Radio junkies going, but then there’s some cool mood-setting older tunes, like a bit of Dusty (Spooky), and The Kinks (You Really Got Me).

Then Duffy, Joey Ramone and The Bees do a nice job of fusing the old and new sounds together.

A few of the instrumental compositions from the score make for little more than nice Manhattan background muzak, but hey – they’re all buried at the end anyway. Some movie boffins out there will appreciate the thought.

With a smattering of f-bombs, maybe bypass this one when selecting your Mum’s Christmas gifts. For your good selves however, How to Lose Friends and Alienate People will sit nicely in your collection of dialogued soundtracks, probably closer to Pulp Fiction (yea) than Big Daddy (nay). The album does have some style, a hint of cool, and after a couple of listens, I think it’s just intrigued me enough to duck out to catch the flick before it vanishes to DVD.
