my majestic star i havent got it in me

This moody, emotive little offering, calming the senses as it takes you on a twisting, turning experimental journey of sound, is the latest from Perth ensemble My Majestic Star.

What began as a solo project for musical artist, Chris Mason, has taken roots and grown into an amazing collaboration with fellow musicians Miriam Braun, Jamie Hamilton and Stu Medley, the result of which is I Haven't Got It In Me, a collection of ten chilled-out tunes.

Recorded at Stranded Studios, Chris demonstrates his diverse talents as he not only helps write and perform the songs, but also recorded, produced and had a hand in the mixing of the album.

This is moody, ambient, easy listening music. It envelops you and carries you away to that happy place where everything is okay. If music sooths the savage beast, this album by My Majestic Star is capable of molding him into the lovable household pet.

The album opens with eerie keyboards, reminiscent of a church organ, as the atmospheric grooves of Stranger begin, and the beautiful sounds of the cello waft through the speakers as the mood is set for a mystical exploration of ambience. The pace takes a slight upturn with Cramping, as their poignant, dreamy, blended vocals thread themselves through the music.

This is just such a chilled-out album. It climbs hills, and traverses valleys as it takes you by the hand and leads you on a lazy meander through ten diverse yet musically polished numbers that embrace the senses.

The hauntingly beautiful sounds of the cello mark the beginning of City Sleeps. I love the sound of the cello; the mood it creates is perfectly at ease with this style of music. It's almost like this style of music was created just for it. Miriam and Chris' vocals lazily intertwine to create a song that was a highlight on the album.

This is music to daydream to, to contemplate those problems in life that have been getting you down and to find the light on the other side. It's the perfect background music for a chilled out Sunday afternoon- a multi-layered sound sculpture from an amazing Perth collective.
