Massappeal - Jazz (Album)
Massappeal were from the 80's in with the same crowd as Hard Ons, Nursery Crimes and the Meanies but all of those groups in my opinion shit all over Massappeal if this album is meant to be a classic from the 80's god knows what people were thinking.
The mix of this album would have to be one of the worst I have ever heard its all total distortion, but not in a good way, the vocals are so hidden in the mix you would need a Melways to find them, I cant believe this album is a meant to be a remastered version, I would have to hated to hear the oriiginal mix.
From one track to the next these nothing redeeming what so ever, just one big muddy mix. I was really looking forward to hearing this album because I had heard great things, I'm big fan of Aussie 80's punk, but i really cant see what this album was trying to acheive. One of the main reasons I dont think this stands up is because none of the songs have hooks, there's nothing memorable whatsoever about these tunes, as opposed to songs like 'Girl In A Sweater' which was one of the defining punk tracks from the 80's as soon as you hear the opening chords to the song you instantly know who it is singing and what song it is.
Thats one of the missing ingrediants from the Massappeal album it just sounds so dated, and that brings me back to the remastering done on the album, thats what makes old albums sound so new again, it's getting out all the pops and crackles of the old recordings and trying to spruce them up a bit, but it really seems like the none of that has been done here.
I hate to say it but is my worst album for 2006
