Kept Low - Mercy Arms

Wowza, of the handful of discs I have had to review for the dwarf, this is the first one I think I'm actually going to put onto my iTunes. I have deliberately not read too much about Mercy Arms, to be honest their bio thingy that came with the album sounds the same as every other band, and I don't think I need to, as the music is doing that whole talking for itself thing. It does say on the press release that this is music for romantics, and yes this could be great music for a young girl wearing a lot of black to listen to and sing along to in her bedroom, but that would be too limiting.

Kept Low has some great rock'n'roll moments, crazy guitar noises and plenty of toe tapping rhythms. Hell, I just sent it round the Discman a second time straight away and am tapping my foot under the desk already.

Now there's not too much melody or poppy sing-along chorus here.BUT there's plenty of danceable rock beats and swirling emotion, I guess this is music for romantics. I'd really like to see/hear these boys live, I would imagine with an energetic crowd and the right conditions things could really "go off" as they say.

What more can I say, this is slightly dark, serious music that would suit a dark introspective mood that you didn't want to be in. Ie this music, like the blues, would help with cheering you up and getting you up and moving.

Mercy Arms, keep an ear out for them, I don't know how long they've been playing or where, but I think there are going to be good things coming from them if this EP is anything to go by.
