Blue King Brown

Blue King Brown’s latest single Moment of Truth sees them packing more punch than ever before whilst still remaining a highly danceable affair. They certainly have a talent for delivering a politically charged and somewhat angry message in the funkiest possible way.

The thing that stands out from the onset is the huge leap in the production quality on this single. It was recorded by multi Grammy award-winning Bonzai Caruso (who has worked with Stephen Marley, Gwen Stefani, Madonna) and produced by BKB’s founding members Natalie Paapaa & Carlo Santone. They have always had a big sound with all the instruments and back-up vocals that they bring to the table but the heightened level of production here really makes them a world class act and, with their global message, here’s hoping they get the international attention they deserve.

Moment of Truth opens with a dramatic horn section before breaking down into a roots’n’reggae vibe with Natalie almost rapping here but with a Rastafarian influence and the back-ups accenting various phrases and words along the way. Throughout this song there are many genres covered from soul to rock to reggae and hip hop but it all seems to flow nicely whereas many bands attempting the same would get lost in the proceedings. It’s a big sound from one of Australia’s finest live acts and serves as nice teaser as we can expect from their next album due out next year.
