plastic palace alice no shame

I don’t know very much about Plastic Palace Alice so it’s difficult to comment on the change of musical direction that other commentators have said is signalled by their new single No Shame. What I can say is that this song gives its listener a beautiful four minutes of escape. This Melbourne band delivers an outstanding single so suitable for the context of its winter release.

This lovely song can be comfortably slotted on the same shelf with Whitley, Sarah Blasko, Bridezilla and similar whimsical artists. It is a wonderfully lyrical and melodic single, with bonus points added for the singer’s imperfect but charming vocals. The song features magical backing vocals which are occasionally interrupted by the almost out of place screech of an electric guitar. But the song builds up so well and the defiant nature of the lyrics is accompanied perfectly by the music.

The song begins so delicately (“you die and you die and you die all the time”) but it strengthens in progression. It all comes together in a really solid song which displays the unique sound of this band and the talent they have to offer. Unashamedly vulnerable, No Shame is an absolutely outstanding song which works really well to lure listeners in to whatever else Plastic Palace Alice has to offer.
