Coheed and Cambria - No World for Tomorrow (Album)
This is the final release of the three part “The Amory Wars” concept album group from Coheed & Cambria. There is a feeling of finality about this album, and it’s a glorious way to finish “The Amory Wars”.
From the first track ‘The Reaping’ you’re in, the acoustic start and the vocals are reminiscent of Mars Volta and lead you straight into the title track ‘No World For Tomorrow’. ‘Feathers’ which will be the second single from “No World For Tomorrow” taps into prog rock ballads. It’s a natural radio track, and I hope it gets the air play it deserves here.
Which brings me to the first single from the album, ‘The Running Free’, which really nails home the finality of this album, the chorus lyrics “you’re running free as only you would be if you never owed them anything, and now you’ve found your way out in the trust you’ve seen your path on home” and the atmospheric instrumentals made this my initial stand out track. I know it’s pretty lame to choose the first single as the stand out, but there’s a great feeling of freedom from oppression in this track, that and I’m a sucker for a good vocal hook.
The last five tracks of “No World For Tomorrow” are grouped as “The End Complete”. The guitars are totally metal; ‘The End Complete II – Radio Bye Bye’ has Queen-style group lyrics. Metallica is present in ‘The End Complete III – The End Complete’. And, this section is where I found my final stand out track ‘The End Complete IV – The Road and The Damned’. It’s a power ballad! Hell yeah! Check the lyrics out, “if I had a way back I’d ride through the dark and the dawn but please don’t wait for me, because the man you love don’t live here anymore, I can’t go home again”. It’s a modern ‘November Rain’, replete with wailing guitars.
But enough about the songs, here is the gem. The greatest bit of trivia about this record is that Taylor Hawkins recorded the drum parts. The reason for this is new drummer Chris Pennie, formerly of The Dillinger Escape Plan, was unable to record the parts due to contractual obligations. Pennie did, however, write the drum parts so the live show is going to be as good as promised. I can’t wait!
