Lindsay Phillips - O Deceit (Single)
This year, Lindsay Phillips has stepped onto the solo bandwagon and released an accomplished single, titled O Deceit.
Amongst the illustrious names of Bob Dylan, Paul Kelly and Tom Waits, Lindsay Phillips has an immediately recognisable voice, which emanates above the serene acoustic accompaniment of O Deceit. It is a beautiful foreshadowing for tracks yet to be released on Lindsay’s debut album, Varning.
The song carries a lament of melodic grace, paired with the haunting, gravelly overtones of Lindsay’s voice, singing of love and deception. The accompaniment, played on guitar, is kept simple and unchanging throughout the entire song. However, this does not detract from the harmonic value of O Deceit as Lindsay still manages to create refined melodic contrasts between the tremulous qualities of his voice and the acoustic twang of his guitar.
Kept short and sweet, playing for only two minutes and forty seconds, O Deceit leaves us anticipating more and eagerly awaiting the release of Varning in March 2010.
