Named after a series of mix-tapes Jamie used to hand out to fans, "Panic Prevention" is the first long-player from Wimbledon 21 year-old Jamie T.
The UK music press has got itself into quite a state over Jamie T since he released his debut Betty And The Selfish Sons EP on his own Pacemaker Records, and with good cause; he is in-fact, “so hot right now”.
Largely recorded in his bedroom, Panic Prevention breaks through genres from beginning to end, drawing on Jamie’s influences all the way. Jamie melds Britpop, drum’n’bass, ska and lo-fo punk into an apt backdrop for musing over and recollecting his everyday life of shagging, getting drunk and in his own words, “going out on a Saturday and behaving like a prat”.
There’s an impressive list of highlights on this album, and as proclaimed in track 6: "Operation", “It’s all thriller, no filler”. The fun ska-ish "If You Got the Money" has been all over Rage of late and is a cheeky handbook for stealing your mate’s girl whilst also being thrifty. Other top-shelf tunes include "Salvador", "Calm Down Dearest", "Sheila" and "Alicia Quays".
Sounding like a cross between Mike Skinner (of The Streets) and the Arctic Monkeys, Panic Prevention is a breath of fresh air. Whilst wishing to be cautious about touting the net-big-thing, there's no doubt that Jamie T is a stand out so far in 2007.
"Panic Prevention" is out now through Virgin Records.
