That old familiar voice trickles out from my speakers. Hello, Pinky. Someone for Everyone is your pretty standard rock fare (having seen them live, I could probably rattle off some better choices for a new single, but Pinky and Co. are smart boys). Post-MGF, Mr. Beecroft is undoubtedly having a tough time getting people to accept his new musical direction, but the White Russians are still yards ahead of the Oz music pack, despite being only slightly watery. Someone for Everyone has a lovely, flowing vibe that utilizes Pinky’s melancholic, sometimes haunting voice that MGF fans might recall from some of the Fellatio’s sultrier hits. The song’s plot is, essentially, a guy invites a girl out, but she doesn’t turn up. Aww. He goes out, gets a bit down, rather unfortunately gets hit by a car, but ends up with the chick that ran him over. “So. Love rules. Even after major road trauma” says Pinky. A strange sentiment, but I like it.
The band’s cover of Giorgio Moroder/ Blondie’s Call Me is strangely fitting (especially the line, “...where you’re ready, we can share the wine”) and a nice surprise live. I personally like hearing covers done a bit off-centre. It shows a major creative spin when artists are able to manipulate a song you only thought you could hear one way into one that becomes a totally different thing altogether. The principally Pinky Beecroft sound turns any song he does into liquid gold and ash; beautiful and human.
