Lakes of Russia - Stars Decorate The Fire (Album)
This album is like light rain, something that cleanses, that’s gentle, and that offers a slight, not unwelcome chill. Jake McMinn (“Lakes of Russia”) knows how to tease here on Stars Decorate the Fire, leaving each note to ring on until it just can’t hang on anymore. There’s nothing overstated or intrusive that should be here, like vocals or drums, as it all leans in and out of intensity with the beauty of lonely echoed guitars, and the solemnity of cello and keyboards.
No one piece should be played without the others, as they all fold perfectly into each other. I swear you can hear the texture of said cello’s strings in the softly crying Dead Trees. With the headphones on in a darkened room, Stars Decorate The Fire will definitely feed from your day’s emotions, be it intense, or calming, the ambience curling itself into corners and offering light to your musings. It’s like a twilit session of relaxed, dozy blinking. This all sounds wanky, I know, but true.
