The Hello Morning are a Melbourne band that describe themselves as country inspired rock’n’roll. Don’t get too put off by the mention of country music if that’s not your thing. Their single ‘Stone Cold Lover’ is a gritty and ballsy affair that sounds impressively refreshing.
Lead singer Steven Clifford has a husky and old-school rock voice with a straining quality that only adds to the feel of the song. For an allegedly country sounding band, this track has a very lush feel, and is warm as well as abrasive to an extent.
‘Stone Cold Lover’ is the first single from their debut self titled album that was recently released. The album was recorded over in the states in Georgia and was mixed by Mike Crossey, Steve Schram and Lachlan Carrick, who between them have mixed for the likes of Arctic Monkeys, C.W. Stoneking, Little Birdy and Little Red. Not long ago the group released a self produced EP and this album follows on from where that recording left off.
While the single has a distinct rock’n’roll feel that is raw, there is also a soulfulness about it as well, one which reportedly flows through the entire album as well. ‘Stone Cold Lover’ showcases The Hello Morning’s talent, and is a perfect introduction to the band for new comers.
