Stone Parade - Stone Parade (EP)
» Stone Parade new single 'My Generation' - May 15, 2008
I’ve seen it time and time again- innocent Australian bands heading off to America to record and coming back sounding American. I'm not talking about accents or anything like that. But there is something about LA that turns an Australian record into something that can be used in a Hollywood production like if Daredevil made a sequel... not that that's a bad thing.
It’s been awhile since I last checked on these guys, the last time being was when I was still trying to come to terms with the name change (R.I.P. Tapered Edges- yes I am still attached to that name) but it's nice to see that much hasn’t changed, still producing great music. If your at a loss as to who these guys are, you might’ve seen them at Coke’s Live and Local or supporting greats like Hoobastank and Maroon 5. But whilst they had a great momentum going exposing themselves live, they decided to use the connections they had made to knuckle down and record their debut album.
If your wanting to know whether time has affected the new stuff musically I guess the main difference is this new release has progressively become more edgy. Stone Parade’s self-titled album teaser features songs from their upcoming record Chase The Setting Sun and showcases songs with guitars that are more chord-driven than melodic and there are less layering of harmonic vocals which I do miss, but the upside to this is that musically it would make a great angst record quite the opposite to what the titles and themes suggest- faith, love and fragility. My favourite track would have to be ‘World You Know’ which starts off atmospheric with the reverberation of a simple ‘woahh’ and would make a perfect soundtrack choice. Look for out Stone Parade in the future, you might end up hearing them in a Hollywood blockbuster.
