Kath Bloom - Terror (Album)
It’s been a long time between drinks for a new Kath Bloom album, but that seems to be her style, averaging about a five year break between releases. This country/folk singer has been making music since the seventies and unfortunately there hasn’t been a lot of progression in her sound.
I wasn’t quite sure how to begin describing this album mostly because her slow and gloomy voice would cause me to want to curl up with a pillow and fall asleep. I don’t think this is necessarily a criticism of the album because I grew up with a mother who was a fan of the old female country greats so Kath’s music is comparative to a lullaby for me.
She has definitely captured the old school country sound in every song on the album with little variation – other than lyrics - between each piece. Lyrically she has carefully constructed a journey linking the songs together. I don’t imagine this album going too mainstream because of the drowning melody and the classic folk country flavour; however it is still refreshing to hear lyrics that talk about a love and the life of a husband and wife who have evidently been married for some time now.
You can be an ambassador for lasting love again after listening to the song Midnight Moon. With the raw tale of a relationship that has weathered the storms of having children, arguments, broken dreams and yet still “we look into each other’s eyes and we just feel a little wise”
In a similar vein to Midnight Moon, is the folk ballad You Walk Beside Me which is lyrically rich in reassurance that this love she has found will be a lifetime love because they know each other inside out and as long as they keep moving and walking beside each other they can go the distance.

Sounds like the making of your typical female country music album, with a hint of folk to flavour it.
