In my fractured, yet humble opinion, there are some things that come back around that really ought to have stayed way back around in the past as a happily forgotten memory, and as music and its makers are constant culprits of the unforgivable act of bringing bad things around, there are some who manage to stroll from the kitchen bearing a fresh bowl of welcomed, once forgotten broth, with a little extra somethin’ somethin’ added to enhance it just a touch.

New single The City by Victorian five piece The Process, manage to use the influence of Britain’s early eighties New Wave sonic with a lead vocal akin to that of Doors front man Jim Morrison, delivered with similar bite and disdain. It’s this blend that keeps things interesting, and it’s a good thing as the aforementioned “wave” appears to be suffering from an overabundance of influence these last few years, to the point of boredom. The Process manages to sidestep this thanks largely to the unique marriage of said music style and vocals. While it’s not mind blowing ingenuity, the song is on it’s own merits catchy as hell, with danceable rhythms and dark, sleazy ambience, never offering to cleanse the soul, but rather leave you rolling around in the city’s gutter and filth as a beautiful disgrace to society.

Extra track The Void offers similar fair, with just a touch of the New Romantic vibe humming in the background, like a distant highway echoing across rooftops. The Process writes greasy, sleazy-smooth tunes that will aid you in your aspirations to “rock out”, just in a slightly self aware, fashionable sense.
