Dappled Cities - The Price (Single)

dappled cities the price

Dappled Cities have been teasing us with new material for about a year and a half now. I remember first hearing The Price almost a year ago when they played at the Annandale, and finaaaaaaaally, it is released as the official first single from their upcoming album, Zounds.

But if you find yourself confused about the anticipation of the new record, new single, and the fuss over Dappled Cities at all, don’t worry; it’s why they’re often hailed as Australia’s most under-appreciated band. But that’s not to say you can still revel in your ignorance, because Dappled Cities are back with a new single that shows exactly why they’re one of the few bands driving Australian music forward, and one you should give a thorough listen.

The Price features all the Dappled essentials: a soaring melody, intrigue and excitement, veiled in layers of great instrumentation. At one moment you’re hit with the grand gesture of Tim Derricourt’s vocals, building and building up again, all the while discovering the buried melodies and the subtleties the other vocalist, Dave Rennick, brings to the table. It is this mix of almost polar opposites that balances Dappled Cities’ live performances and previous albums, and has subsequently set a very high standard for the upcoming release. Though judging from the other new tracks they’ve played over the last year or so, they know exactly what they’re doing.

Zounds is out mid-August.
