the rex wicked the world could turn around

Now I don’t know much about The Rex Wicked and I’m not going to sit here and pretend that I do. All that I know is that they are a local Melbourne outfit, in which most people I meet or already know are friends with them or know them through a friend. I also thought that they were broken up, and that they were another screamo/emo/punk Melbourne band, in which I can only apologize for, because they are far, far, far from this.

The second offering The World Could Turn Around… is a wonderful progressive rock creation, having heard many comparisons to Muse, I was officially intrigued. It opens with Prisoner, a melodic emotional rollercoaster; the production values however have been left behind and I can’t help but feel as though there is something missing. It does get better though with personal favourite Dreams and Delusions complete with keys and melodies reminiscent of their biggest influence Muse. A New Day and Interlude again has a beautiful keys arrangement and I only wish that if I were to ever see them live that they have a back up Orchestra, more likely not to happen at the Evelyn but a prog-rock band with an Orchestra would be absolutely epic. I’m also loving the marching band and guitar riff halfway through the Interlude, which makes way nicely for the heavier finish on the edgier and stronger version of Prisoner, Don’t Let Them Break You. Now I only hope that those break up rumours aren’t true and that I can live to see The Rex Wicked, complete with an Orchestra.
