pete murray you pick me up

You Pick Me Up is the first single marking the comeback of Mr Pete Murray. I have to be honest here, when I heard that there was a new single out I wasn't really excited. I thought that I wouldn't love it, to say the least. It's a bit of a different direction for Pete, and, lo and behold, I really like it. In fact, from the moment I first heard it I was excited to hear more.
This song has a real summery vibe and it is quite heavy on the atmospheric vibey sounds. He recorded much of the single at his home studio in Byron Bay and this has had an effect on the track. He has had time to get things sounding exactly like he wants them to sound - without so much industry interference. He has also added a new guitarist to the mix. As always, the lyrics are a standout. This song is about his wife and with lines like: "You lift me up to the greatest that I've been. Honestly, its not a phase." you cant help but feel a little 'aww' by it all.
I managed to hear the track live recently and I didnt think it was anywhere near as good as on the cd. It goes like that sometimes. Pete does have a pretty good live record with me though, so I cant say it has made much of an impact on my overall opinion. The other tracks on the single aren't much to rave about, however. They are different, yes, but I feel that they dont quite go with the music. Luckily the single more than makes up for it and I can't help but wonder what comes next.
