Covered by everyone from The Beatles and The Byrds to Aretha Franklin and Dusty Springfield, Carole King is one of the great songwriters of our time. Her era-defining, multiple-Grammy-winning, 25-million-selling ‘Tapestry’ remains one of music’s greatest and best-loved albums.
King’s story, of course, is now part of music legend. In the 1960s, she and co-writer Gerry Goffin quietly defined a generation with over 50 songs that landed in the US Top 40. In 1971, she gave us the landmark Tapestry, for which she became the first woman to win four Grammy’s in one year (Best Album, Best Song, Best Record & Best Vocal Performance in 1972). She was also named the prestigious Time Magazine “Woman Of The Year” in 1972. King and Goffin were inducted into the Songwriter Hall Of Fame in 1987, the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 1990 and were honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award in 1980, amongst many other accolades.
To date more than 400 Carole King compositions have been recorded by over 1000 artists, resulting in 100 hit singles, many reaching the coveted #1 spot. She is arguably the most successful and most revered female songwriter in pop music history.
