Recent live reviews of Patrick Wolf:
Patrick Wolf contains all the stardom you could want in the petite frame of a 23 year old, but with the pop maturity of a veteran who’s been playing with sounds for half his life. That’s because he has.
From the native surrounds of South London Patrick Wolf has been tinkering in pop prose from the age of eleven. Since then he’s honed his craft into the kind of melting pot music has been craving since the beginning of time. Pounding percussion, bittersweet montage and melodic masterworks allow songs to erupt with drama and dreams. It’s the academic’s party music, or the party-goers academia.
Combining a brilliant eclecticism with sculpted pop-symphonies Wolf offers up The Magic Position, the third record from this extravagant yet understated genius (following on from 2003’s Lycanthropy and 2005’s Wind in the Wires). Live Patrick presents a captivating experience where the fireworks he so effectively tracks on record are set off in a frenzy of real time majesty. Life changing could be an overstatement, but with the ambition of Patrick Wolf who knows?
