Don't be fooled by his MC like moniker. Jamie T is a tall, skinny 20-year old lad from the south-west London suburb of Wimbledon who is influenced as much by the The Clash, Tom Waits and Rancid as by the garage and drum'n’bass raves he grew up attending. You may have already heard Jamie asking “If You Got the Money” and you’ll hear even more from him as his debut album Panic Prevention is released in Australia on February 3.
Armed only with an acoustic bass guitar, a teenage Jamie T started off by playing the backrooms of pubs in Soho and Twickenham and recording tracks in his bedroom with budget equipment. In March 2006 he released Betty And The Selfish Sons EP through his own Pacemaker Records and created a huge buzz for himself by giving out his own series of Panic Prevention mix-tapes at local gigs and club nights he put on.
“If You Got The Money” is the first Australian single taken from Panic Prevention and is a quintessential Jamie T banger, fusing screechy punk rock guitars, flowing vocals and a touch of the Beastie Boys schoolyard humour into a tight three minute pop song. Panic Prevention was largely written and recorded in Jamie’s bedroom and is titled as such after the series of mix-tapes he handed out.
To celebrate the release of Panic Prevention the good folk at Virgin have given us five copies to give to you good folk!
