Returning to Oz for a national tour in September 2006, Okkervil River will release an exclusive
Australian/New Zealand tour EP titled Overboard and Down.

After three months of constant touring throughout Europe, America and Australia, Okkervil River
returned home in January 2006, eager to start recording again. Preparing for his move to New
York City, front man Will Sheff moved his furniture out of his Austin, Texas home and replaced it
with a stack of recording gear.

“We got together in the house and in a few days recorded 22 new songs. These weren't intended
for release; they were just for fun. Some of them were demos for possible future use, some of
them were brand-new songs I'd just written as exercises, some of them were covers, some were
genre experiments. We just wanted to do a lot of recording with the express desire not to release
the stuff, to rediscover the idea of recording for fun,” said Sheff.

While none of these songs were intended for release, when the band’s Australian label suggested
a tour EP, Okkervil River viewed it as a twofold opportunity – to give something back to their
Aussie fans (especially as the band’s third album is its only full-length record available in Oz), and
make use of their impressive home recordings.

But don’t expect a mini version of Black Sheep Boy.

“I like to think that – in very sharp contrast to the very involved and kind of conceptual aspects of
Black Sheep Boy – this EP gives a very informal Polaroid snapshot of Okkervil River just working
off the cuff, putting something together out of a sense of play rather than out of a sense of bigrelease
pressure,” said Sheff.
Featuring a cover of Big Star's O, Dana (a line from which is the source of the EP’s title), as well as
a live recording of Westfall (taken from the band’s first album Don't Fall in Love with Everyone You
See), the EP is Okkervil River at its most carefree – without sacrificing the rawness and
enthusiasm of its previous recordings.
