One of Australia’s most respected and popular live acts The Whitlams return to the national spotlight with their new double album ‘Little Cloud’. The Whitlams are famous for re-producing Tim Freedman’s incredible catalogue of songs in a live environment, this time is no exception with the band planning to tour the new body of work extensively throughout the country in April, May and June this year.
Released on March 19 through Warner Music, ‘Little Cloud’ is the sixth studio album for The Whitlams and marks the follow-up to the platinum selling ‘Torch The Moon’. It sees a return to the trademark piano and vocal based story telling style Tim Freedman is renowned for. Regarding their current radio single ‘I Was Alive’, Tim Freedman said,
"I Was Alive is about having trouble with girls again. It’s a bar room stomp with honky tonk piano - real old-fashioned Whitlams."
It’s a unique release with the album broken into two discs; ‘Little Cloud’ explores Freedman’s feelings after returning to Sydney from a recent New York sojourn. Themes of love and disillusion in an election year are examined and given the Freedman touch. Recorded at the new Electric Avenue studio in the inner city suburb of Camperdown, ‘Little Cloud’ features the same personnel as the last two albums from The Whitlams with piano playing front man Tim Freedman joined by Terepai Richmond on drums, Warwick Hornby on bass and Jak Housden on guitar.
Set in New York, the second disc ‘Apple’s Eye’, examines strength and well being, flooded with lyrics and song ideas Freedman shares his experiences passionately and immediately with his audience on this landmark release.
The Whitlams will deliver their new tunes along with many crowd favourites on the ‘Little Cloud’ tour which is sure to be a memorable and unique experience for both band and fans alike.
