Give Peace A Chance with The Kahn Brothers

“I’d love the whole world to have this record”
A heartfelt and grandiose notion from Nadav Kahn, one half of ex-Gelbison duo The Kahn Brothers. Their latest effort together, Love Melts Fear is an earnest body of Lennon-esque peace anthems and innocuous sentiments, drenched with acoustica and Indian spirituality. And there seems to be no shortage of that in Nadav...
“Openness and awareness of what exists in this life, world, planet. It’s definitely shaped a lot of my views, and thus this record” Nadav replies when I ask of various influences. Expecting a more habitual answer like “the Beatles”, I am involuntarily captured by Nadav’s energy. I move on, realizing I can’t read Nadav’s aura all day; onto musical influences. “I come from a very strong love of sound and sonics, love Rafael Toral, and people who experiment and have been doing so for a long time. I also love pure song writing,; I grew up with Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, John Denver, a childhood backlog of stuff that got stored inside over the years”
His nomadic character comes into play a great deal, both socially and musically; “For Schoolies I went to Los Angeles…I was kind of saving to go to Schoolies with all my friends and this courier ticket came up for 300 bucks, and I thought, “forget Queensland” (laughs). It was great….that was the beginning of the decision to do more travelling”.
So how did this latest album come about, then? “After we put out the last Gelbison record, all this new and exciting creativity came out, new songs, new phases, we both, were writing songs with a slightly different feel, and we just came together. It’s been a matter of exploring sounds and songs; lately it’s been a challenge to put out beautiful songs, like the Beatles put out beautiful songs, explorative in a 2 to 3 minute time fragment”
If you aren’t captured by now, head to the Kahn Brothers MySpace and see- well, hear- for yourself. Love Melts Fear is a poignant gem within a great mess of angry long-haired AngstBands and electro you could set your watch to. In the lexis of the boys themselves: "Music for your heart. Music for your soul. We sing for joy and to remind ourselves and you that LOVE MELTS FEAR”
