Jeff Martin

Jeff Martin, formerly from The Tea Party, is back with a new sound, apart of a duo and with a new album; The Armada. Being the former front man, there will be many fans craving the familiar sound and hoping to hear it on this album. Compared to Martin’s fist solo album Exile to Kingdom which was, according to Jeff, a “very personal record, leftover from The Tea Party days, I needed to clean the air” and that this one promises to be “serious intense rock music” in the style of The Tea Party.

Those who have seen Martin’s recent solo concerts will remember the other half of the duo; Wayne Sheehy. Sheehy plays the drums on this album, as well as during concerts, and for Martin their relationship has a “fantastic, strong chemistry”. Together this album creates a blues, psychedelic, Middle Eastern, Western, Led Zep sound.

Martin is known for using different styles of music on his album and this is no different. For The Armada to get these different sounds he “dusted off the old instruments that hadn’t been used recently”. One track alone uses seven or eight different Indian instruments.

When asked what he hopes fans will get out of this album he laughed and quickly responded with; “complete utter satisfaction”. With this said Martin seems very comfortable and excited about the work of The Armada. He calls it an album that you “can listen to over and over without tiring of it, from track one to ten, it’s a journey”. With the main themes of the album being about “struggling inner condition, good and bad, good verses evil, questions of the soul” it promises to be an interesting album.

Not long after the release Jeff Martin and Wayne Sheehy will be touring around Australia. For Martin coming back to play his new songs in Australia is about “reconnecting with the audience”. He explains that the Australian audience has been “very patient with me for that power again, for The Tea Party sound”. As well as reconnecting his main joy of performing his songs live is about “speaking out the emotions”.

The idea behind of calling the album The Armada came from Sheehy; it means ‘attacking on all fronts’ which is how Martin sees the sounds and music on this album.

With this album promising to be a more edgy album compared to his last and talking to him it was very obvious that he is passionate about it. With this much passion and edginess about it, it promises to be a powerful album indeed.
