Lost Valentinos: Electro Insanity

“We’ve finally gotten comfortable with having no personal space whatsoever. It does send you slightly insane, but insanity helps”

So says Pat Santamaria of Sydney psych/electro set Lost Valentinos who had the recent delight of supporting Van She on their national tour. “Being the support band is the hardest slot, but it’s less pressure, you’re a little more free to fuck around (laughs)” says Pat, clearly having no qualms about the support slot (having also supported the likes of The Church and Datarock- nice!).

Though the band have just completed a run of club shows, their next gig is, at time of print, Sounds in the Ground Festival. They’ve also in the past played V Festival, Splendour in The Grass, Falls Festival, Homebake and Parklife.The boys are no strangers to the festival scene, is what I’m driving at here.So, Pat; festival or club shows?

“I have a feeling the art of the club show seems to be dying. It’s more intimate. Bands get to a sort of stage where the scale of their shows seems ridiculous in a club...”

“Like KISS?”

“(laughs) Exactly like KISS”

So what influences you in your day to day life, Pat? “Well, were all film buffs, but I guess just being on tour and sharing a whole bunch of experiences with these guys, that seems to be one of the biggest influences. Were living life on the edge of society (laughs)”

Do you get to many gigs yourself in the local scene?

“Everything’s pretty much slowed down in my life but I’d usually make an attempt get out to local scenes, I love heading out and seeing what the vibe is. I saw My Disco finally, they blew my socks off, I was glad to have finally seen them”

Watch out over yonder on the horizon for Lost Valentinos’ new record The Bismarck, which promises to be a rip-roaring electronic feast for the ear bits.
