Laura Imbruglia and Red Ghost (Rosa Agostino), having embarked on their “Three times a lady tour” with Melanie Horsnell recently, gave The Dwarf the time of day to respond to a few quick questions.
Laura Imbruglia accepted responsibility for naming the journey the “Three times a lady tour,” saying she “came up with it all on her own”. Despite this she told us she was “a total tomboy.” Rosa also admitted that she has to “make a conscious effort to be ladylike.” She goes on to say that without that focus she’d be chewing with her mouth open and “belching and scratching” herself in an impolite way.
Moving right along…
The ladies have chosen to tour together so as to promote safety in numbers. Laura succinctly notes that “it makes sense” for the girls to “cling together.” Rosa however more elaborately claims that “girls who are singer songwriters are more susceptible to predators, especially when they’re on their own. “So,” she says “travelling in threes will keep us safe from evil.” Then she poses “why do you think Charlie’s Angels were so good at fighting crime?” Another, more sedate reason for heading out in a pack is that “touring alone is lonely and boring,” so Laura tells us. She says “I start to get sick of my own company and thoughts very quickly.”
Given Laura’s “company” on the tour, the situation begs the question, who plays first? Rosa suggests “bare knuckle boxing” as the way to decide. She adds, “Whoever loses the most teeth plays first.” Unfortunately for those who love a gruesome ‘chick fight’ Laura informs us that Red Ghost will be first on the stage because “she’s the new kid on the block, and that’s just how life works.” Before any one feels a pang of sympathy for Rosa as the newbie Laura says “but that doesn’t mean anything, it’s actually the coveted spot, because you get to get your set over and done with and then have the rest of the night to get really drunk.”
In between states of drunkenness, Laura and Rosa have had some interesting happenings in their careers. Laura’s recently picked up an electric guitar and Rosa’s been working with the diverse likes of Muph and Plutonic. Of the electric guitar, Laura says “sometimes acoustic guitars get boring and I need a bit more rock in my life. I like to have a nice balance between rock and a soft place.” In working with Muph and Plutonic, Rosa says “it’s a whole lot of fun. I let their ideas, tastes and style dictate what I should do, leaving me to try things I may not have before.”
To finish up, what would the girls be if they weren’t singers? Laura says she’d be “an entomologist” and that she really likes insects. Rosa says she’d be “an organ grinder’s monkey” with “a little fez” on her head and wearing “a little velvet waistcoat” whilst “dancing for a little bit of coin.”
