» Yves Klein Blue & The Holidays announce national tour - August 20, 2008

Albeit slightly distracted by the pursuit of a meat and potato pie from a certain well known pie chain store (not really into free advertising) Sean Cook took some time out with The Dwarf to talk about Yves Klein Blue’s new EP, tour and the all important matters of the universe.
Ok, matters of the universe might be a stretch but some well advised life and music-industry tips, tried and tested by the young 20-year old boys “When on the road and being in this industry… I mainly just try and live my life as simple and normal as possible”
“Initially what keeps you going is just the novelty of being able to play music, then it’s just that we all enjoy playing music, I mean it’s a pretty nomadic, but fun lifestyle. We get to see a lot of things, really get to know a lot of cities, which is great too”
And dance like no one is watching? Or dance like everyone at the Big Day Out after party is watching? The latter is refreshingly the case with Yves Klein Blue “We are probably the ‘danciest band around, at the Big Day Out after party there were loads of people, just kinda standing around, kinda like they were too cool to dance, I guess. I don’t really like that (standing around) though, so I’m probably not cool. But eventually a great band and later a DJ started playing and the dance floor came alive, which was awesome. I like dancing to a lot of 70’s and 80’s punk and emo type music.”
The Yves Klein Blue, Draw Attention to Themselvesnew EP is available now, and aside from the witty and clever title that is sure to ‘draw attention’ the guys have laboured in love to create the 6-track wonder that it is. “What to expect with the new EP? We just went in strong with it, sort of don’t hold anything back” Sean goes on to say “Truth is though, song writing has become second nature to us now…and we, well mainly Michael (Vocals and Lead Guitar) would be writing music and songs even if without this band. We’ll be sitting in an aeroplane and he’ll just get this distant look in his eyes and just stare out the window or something, and we’ll know he is forming a song”
To create and EP that will get recognised, or if we cliché’ it enough – attention – takes a careful recipe of Michael’s reading lots of books, all of them (Including Charles on guitar and Chris on drums) listening to “A lot of your classic rock really, Led zeppelin, Lou Reed and some other hard-core stuff, lately a bit of Ska too. And it’s pretty obvious that Michael, ok I do too, have a man-crush on David Bowie.”
If you hear a vanload of boys crooning along to Johnny Cash, Elvis and eventually Queen, have a peek in the window because you might be sharing a road with Yves Klein Blue, who will be on their way to their next gig. I recommend following them to that gig, for two reasons; the first is that they put on a “Really solid live show and take a different spin on (their) music when its live” Reason number two; because they are getting quite a reputation for supporting the big names including the upcoming tour with Canadian band Tokyo Police Club where they have promised some live show only treats.
