mind over matter Keepin’ It Breezy

There seems to be a plethora Aussie hip hop duo’s hitting the airwaves and popping up all over the place in recent times. With all this popularity there has to be something pretty exceptional to make new kids on the block stand out from the crowd. This is something I was hoping to hear on the Sydney young guns Mind Over Matter’sdebut.

Keepin’ It Breezy is 60 minutes of teen angst, hope and happiness, backed by some very polished beats. The opening track City of Stars is about having a good time and definitely sets the pulse for the rest of the album.

The album goes on and nothing really stands out until track seven Proud, the albums first single. The song immediately grabbed my attention featuring a 25 piece kiddie choir. This track does give these new kids on the block a unique sound amongst the ever growing Aussie hip hop scene. The beat to the track was written by Stylaz Fuego who has worked with such names as Snoop Dogg and Busta Rhymes and is a smooth piece of work.

The album from does have some good lyrics and some nice beats, but as a whole it doesn’t break the mould of the Aussie hip hop genre as I had originally hoped for. But Mind Over Matter are only young and we can probably expect to hear a lot from them in the future.
