Monday, April 9 2007 @ Halo, Hobart

Going to Halo in Hobart was a brand new experience. I had heard such amazing things about the club above our Elizabeth Street Mall but had never had a chance to make it inside.

I must admit, I was a little hesitant about heading out to the club scene... I do love a good club, but part of me feels like after a few years of not clubbing, I just may not belong... The idea of being in a room of young and gorgeous people was a little terrifying to say the least, but the lure of one of my favourite DJ's, Friendly, was enough to swallow my terror and experience this amazing guy hailing from the UK.

Arriving at 10pm to get an idea of when Friendly began was tricky in itself. For a start I had no idea where the entrance was. I somehow managed to get my front and back doors confused, so i stood patiently in the Mall waiting for the door to open (as did the other couple of girls I crossed paths with - so it wasn't just me!). Eventually I realised perhaps there was a back door and made my way down a small, side street in Hobart to be greeted by other excited Friendly fans (like myself!) and a dimly lit staircase.

I did a couple of things in-between – lets just say the words, Monday Night and Cover Bands. It was a bit punishing but all I wanted to do was keep warm, drink water and stay alert before Halo.

Then it was finally 1am. It was strange to stretch myself beyond my normal bed time and be so excited and alert post-midnight, ready to experience such a talented DJ.

Halo is a fantastic venue – the Security staff were kind and helpful (its hard being a small girl going to review gigs on my own), the bar staff rocked (very helpful and friendly providing glasses of H20 for a thirsty reviewer) and the venue was clean, well laid out and a really nice chilled place to just hang and listen to some fantastic music – which is what I love doing when reviewing... sitting in a corner soaking in the sounds – its such a sensory experience to be alert, sober and just there to enjoy the sounds created.

In the end I knocked off from reviewing just before 3am, had one small drink and danced up a storm. Reminded me of my clubbing days when I would just dance and dance by myself and have the most memorable, amazing time. I must thank my lovely friend who helped me dress for Halo – I had no idea what to wear! - three people asked me where I got my funky yet comfy Adidas shoes from. And I did get comments on my outfit (not fit for the Dwarf!).

At 5am I tore myself away... it was hard. Friendly was so very, very good! Although my feet would of protested I am sure I could of danced for so much longer, fueled by the smallest amount of alcohol (one drink to get me on the floor) and masses of enthusiasm to dance to such an amazing live DJ from the UK.

The Easter Bunny wasn't very kind this year but getting friendly at Friendly... (my halo in check, of course!) was the best way to spend an Easter Monday.
