Sunshine Brothers wound up the summer of 07/08 with a 40 day trip around the world including dates in UK, New York, New Zealand, Melbourne, Adelaide Festival and Perth International Arts Festival. The priority of the mission was to record their second long player ‘GREENPOINT’ at Daptone Studios in Brooklyn with Gabe Roth – the Grammy award winning engineer behind the authentic analogue sound recordings of Sharon Jones and Amy Winehouse (Back to Black).

Considering that the starting point for the Brothers in 2005 was basically a musical social club built on playing organically created freestyle dub accompanied by an unhealthy worship of booze and good times; ’GREENPOINT’ is a revelation.

Where the 2006 debut ‘REBEL YELLOW’ accurately captured the original motives of this rambunctious collection of players, ‘GREENPOINT’ goes much deeper and is more sophisticated, more diverse and proves that instruments can speak louder than words.

‘GREENPOINT’ is a thorough workout around their original dub/reggae reference point but somewhere along the three year journey from recording ‘REBEL YELLOW’ near the beach in Fremantle to recording ‘GREENPOINT’ at Daptone in New York City they’ve seamlessly introduced subtle but cohesive elements of jazz, soul, rock, pop, blues, ska and funk into the mix to emerge with an incredibly fresh long player that has irresistible natural charm and defies comparison with other artists.

In short it feels damn good, completely honest and it says what it needs to say without needing to meet the usual requirements of modern music.
‘GREENPOINT’ is a one hour long, fourteen track album release recorded on 8 track 1” tape at Daptone Studio, Brooklyn by Gabe Roth & George Nik in February 2008.

Guests players on GREENPOINT include;
Gabe Roth: Percussion (Dap Kings, Amy Winehouse US touring band)
Ian Hendrickson Smith: Baritone Sax (Dap Kings, Amy Winehouse US touring band)
Fernando Velez: Percussion (Dap Kings)
Aaron Johnson: Trombone (Antibalas Afrobeat Orchestra)

To coincide with the release of ‘GREENPOINT’ on August 16th (through Inertia) in Australia, the Sunshine Brothers are set to tour the east coast and their hometown this August/September.
