A band as legendary and iconic as that of Dinosaur Jr is easy to spot, as they are the ones receiving waves of applause and cheering, before they’ve even walked on stage. I feel that the Gov truly was the best venue for them, as it is small, incredibly comfortable with an inviting and relaxing atmosphere and great acoustics for whatever music is being played at the time, especially the songs of this iconic indie band.
Having been already warmed up and entertained by local band, Leader Cheetah, who was a good choice for support, as they stated through their set, that Dinosaur Jr were their favourite band, the crowd was more than ready to go when the band walked onto stage.
Although there were a few minor technical difficulties at the start of their set, but it all sorted itself out before they really got stuck into favourites, such as 'Feel the Pain', which really got the crowd going.
As they played their set, which was a journey through songs old and new, the atmosphere of the Gov was incredibly effective and whether members of the audience were old fans, or just spending a night at their local pub, the night seemed to be thoroughly enjoyed by all.
They ended the set with an encore performance, 'Sludge and Clunk', and made their way off the stage for, what was seemingly the final time.
But, as is the beauty with the Gov, they just came back on a few minutes later, after a few people had left, to help clear up their things and talk to some people in the crowd.
Although there was very minimal interaction between audience and musicians, it was apparent that all the band members wholly enjoyed playing a show the uniquely relaxed atmosphere of the Gov.
