Brissie locals I Heart Hiroshima did a dandy job of firing up the Regurgitator-eager crowd that spilled into Viva last Friday Night.
With their indie pop-quirkiness and crowd-pleasing small-talk by born entertainer and drummer Susie. I heart managed to impress fans, new and old with a mixture of tracks from their EP’s and debut album Tuff Teef. I Heart Hiroshima always promise an entertaining show, with the trio never failing to impress with their friendly faces and catchy sound.
On the opposite end of the random scale Chinese Revolutionists New Pants, fresh from a tour supporting the almighty Yeah Yeah Yeah’s. An interesting mix of skinny jeans, synths, highly accented vocals and 80’s pop electro sound, New Pants seemed to have an impressive size collection of fans and groupies, even being stalked and hounded after their performance in the small-ish venue. However the group was happy to indulge fans, who presented clothing, tickets and body parts for autographs.
Even with New Pants impressive fan base and I Heart’s laughs, Brissie locals Regurgitator proved to be the crowd favourites of the night. Creating a charged atmosphere by killing the lights in the entire venue, the band hit the stage leaving eager fans waiting. With some impressive work by the tech crew, the Gurge hit the stage, compete with headgear displayed on their latest album Love and Paranoia. Resembling the only survivors from a crashed alien spaceship, Regurgitator made an enthusiastic attempt to get their fans jumping, and were successful. Playing a mixture of work from their EP’s and blood and spunk, ‘I sucked a lot of co*k to get where I am’ and ‘Kong Foo Sing ’proved to be crowd favourites. Following the success of their earlier work, Regurgitator were once again projected to fame following their ‘ band in a bubble’ experiment in 2004, which saw the band crammed into a room/recording studio, in Melbourne’s Federation square and resulted in their album Mish Mash. Regurgitator know how to put on a good show, creating a whirlwind of noise, moshing and head banging, usually reserved for bigger events.
