Squinting into the sunlight i had two things on my mind.. a GnT and some LOUD music.
Late on a sultry arse sunday afternoon, oily pendulous beads of sweat, slid of the crowds skin and added a glossy sheen to the bitumen(carpet)..the back room, seemingly the only venue to accomodate the black guns was the venue du jour..
Like a partially popped blister - the show was short, tight and hot..
But what also was delivered which was high energy musical assalt executed with fluidity and muscular playing. .
The energy between the two guitarists Nick ‘DD’ Black & Tommy ‘guns’ Elliot was playful, intense .. packed with energy...
So as the story goes , it was such a short span of time between the launch oftheir debut EP and the formation of the band.. They’ve gained a lot of attention and big props from industry folk - primarily suppporting bands such as the Screaming Jets, Airborne and the Spazzy’s.
2006 was the release of a highy anticipated EP ‘In the City’.. flogging themselves by performing venue after venue in Melbourne + Interstate.. the Black Guns are building a solid reputation as a band that are bloody hardworking... they are!
And the show was non-stop.. superbly expressive singing.. lots of sweat, lots of lunging, lots of long hair.. and that was the band.. in the pit there was a fare deal of black leathers, some very skinny legs belonging to some very old men ( veteran rockers p’haps) throwing their fibrous bodies, i imagine there was not a dry gusset in sight. Overall good music and lots + lots of fun.
