Dallas Crane are becoming somewhat of a Melbourne institution. Their live show has forever been hailed as being consistently exciting and electrifying, and tonight was no different. Having seen this great band more times than I can be bothered counting, it is impossible to get bored of these four lads giving it there all and delivering a live set capable of psyching the crowd into a frenzy.
This Hifi bar tenth anniversary show began upon going down the steps to reveal 67 Special mid way through their set. The band delivers great rock songs, and by the end had most of the crowd dancing along, but it was clear who the punters had come to see tonight.
As the Crane walked on stage, they wasted no time getting stuck in to the anthemic ‘Tonight (There’s A Party Going Down)’ and from that moment on rushed through a career spanning set comprising rare tracks as well as crowd favorites.
Their latest album “Factory Girls” featured heavily during the gig, with tracks such as ‘Curiosity’ and ‘Lovers Sinners’ getting played early in the set, as well as old favorite ‘No Through Road’. ‘Cant Work You Out’ and ‘Unlucky Star’ ensured that, in typical fashion, the gig continued at a rollicking pace throughout, right until the encore when Dave warned the crowd “Not to worry” when he picked up an acoustic guitar, before announcing that this would be the first time they had played an acoustic song at the Hifi. “Keep Your Head High Bella Mae” showed a more quiet side of the band rarely seen in a live show setting.
As the set closed with crowd favorite ‘Dirty Hearts’ the punters went home having witnessed one of the county’s most exciting rock n roll bands deliver yet another awesome set.
