I don't know about you, but I've never been to a bad Dallas Crane show, and I’ve been to a few. Despite being a humid, sticky night, Friday’s show was no exception.
Unfortunately I didn't see enough of The Vandas to make a qualified statement in this here review. I certainly liked what I heard though and look forward to seeing more of them when I get the chance.
It was my first time seeing Airbourne and after hearing quite a bit about them, I was pretty curious to check them out. The bogans (and I mean that in the nicest possible way) were an experience to behold. With monolithic amps behind them they were set to blow everyone away - and I think they did. They’ve got all the moves at their disposal and know how to get people’s attention. Throw in a (long) walk through the crowd by the lead singer and you’ve got a show! But prepare to get wet. If you’re in the front row like I was you will get sweat thrown your way, drinks splattered around and shaken beer cans will open up and spray all over you. Consider yourselves warned.
Dallas Crane as a whole seemed to be in an up mood as soon as they walked out. It wasn't too long before Dave Larkin let us know why. He told us how, at dinner earlier that night, he had asked his girlfriend to marry him and she said yes. Personally, I felt rather privileged to be let in on this private disclosure. Needless to say, cheers, applause and happy vibes ensued. It reminded me of a Dallas Crane gig last year when a couple got on stage and we were honoured to witness that proposal. She said yes too. What is it about this band and marriage proposals? They seem like a happy band. They obviously love what they do and people love watching them do what they do. They just do it so damn well!! There's quite a few of us around who know that - if only everyone else did. They deserve to be huge.
The end of the set delivered a surprise guest in the form of Tex Perkins (fresh from a T'n'T show earlier that night supporting Tenacious D). Obviously everyone got very excited and thoroughly enjoyed the rendition of 'Chase The Dragon' that followed. We love special guests, don’t we readers? I was hoping for a visit by Tim Rogers as well, but it didn’t happen. An encore later and an amazing show was over all too soon. Anyone want to throw some money my way so I can go to the remaining shows too??
