Enter Shikari are a band I have wanted to see for a while now and when the chance came up for me to see them I thought I’d go along and have some fun; and let me tell you, I had some fun!
I had never been to the Hi Fi Bar before so I was worried I wouldn’t get there in time to catch the opening act The Amity Affliction, but I was sure I found it when I saw a couple of hundred kids wearing black blocking the footpath.
After a half an hour wait outside we were finally let in and when everyone was in The Amity Affliction started their set. I hadn’t heard The Amity Affliction before but I found them to be quite impressive. They were more then your typical metalcore/hardcore band and had lots of energy and a reasonable good sound, apart from the keys which you couldn’t hear that well.
Enter Shikari took the stage by walking through the crowd. A big roar and a rush of people to the front of the stage as the sound of 'Stand Your Ground'; 'This Is Ancient Land/Enter Shikari' started, which went off straight away with a circle pit forming half the size of the floor.
Throughout the set the boys from England gave the crowd a rowdy score starting with 5 and making its way up to 10, with each point making the crowd get more rowdy and the pit getting bigger.
The best part of the show was the dance music element, where they played a 3-4 minute intro to 'Mothership' where everyone got their groove on did some crazy dance moves. During this one of the members ran across the crowd and one stage dived (well I think it was here).
What I found very impressive was that they played every song off the album but 'Adieu' and 'Today Won't Go Down In History', plus they played 'The Feast' and my all time favourite song by them, 'Kickin’ Back On The Surface Of Your Cheek'.
They told us that they weren’t going to do an encore because they learnt a new saying in Australia, “Harden the F**K Up”. During this time the drummer also removed his shirt and wringed all the sweat out of it over the crowd at the front of the stage. There was a lot of sweat!
There was no human pyramid in 'Sorry You’re Not a Winner', which was disappointing, but with an hour and twenty odd minute show with no break for an encore it was one of the best shows I have ever been to!
