Frightened Rabbit have built themselves quite solid fan base in Melbourne. They have been here 3 times since last year, and every time they move to a bigger venue.

It’s easy to see why their fan base has grown so rapidly, they are incredibly engaging with their audience and genuinely sincere with their rapport. I haven’t been a massive fan for too long, but I have seen the band grow sonically and mature lyrically over the last 2 albums. Their latest release ‘Winter of Mixed Drinks’ isn't anything radically different to their last album, but engaging none the less.

Tonight’s performance was a great mixture from both albums. Scott Hutchinson’s lyrics are deeply personal that reflect how you push your self to the edge and how you feel alone while sitting on the edge of the cliff. The audience resonated with these themes throughout the night. They would scream back in response with full bloody fury.

Frightened Rabbit remind a lot of the Frames, not in the sense the singers similarities, but with the approach they both have to their song writing, great big anthemic sing along's sung with passion to the point of explosion.

I can see Frightened Rabbit getting bigger and better as they mature in the studio and as well as on the stage. At the same time, as with all our favourite bands you want them to stay small so you can call them your own. The band played for just about an hour tonight, which gave the audience a good mix of the back catalogue as well as hearing new tunes from Mixed Drinks. This Melbourne show was played just after their triumph performance at Splendor In The Grass.

When Frightened Rabbit come back here next time, word of mouth will be the only thing needed to get crowds to their gigs. I for one will be front and centre.
