Have you heard yet? There are posters and recommendation everywhere to suggest you should Listen to Little Red. Before Friday night at the Corner hotel, I had only heard a few random songs of theirs, but that was motivation enough to create a desire to see them live. They have the promise of breathing fresh life to music when they are on stage. And it’s no secret that bands have an extra something when they are performing for a home crowd.

Kicking off the night was the slightly effeminate Andy Bull, his high voice threw me as I first walked through the doors, but as I claimed my piece of floor near the sound desk, I must admit the young tight-black-shirted fellow grew on me. He was joined on stage by the Bull Horns, a three piece boy ‘band’ including trumpet, saxophone and trombone players, and another two guys, one on bass and one on drums. I have a thing for overzealous drummers, however sometimes they almost outshine the lead. The drummer joining Andy Bull for his set, was so entrenched in his rhythm he took his drumming to an orgasmic level, so much that at the end of the song you could almost see the cigar he was craving. I must admit, though I was distracted by him, he was really good to watch. Andy grabbed the audience’s attention back when he preformed his single Small Town Girl.

Next in the lineup was four piece indie rock band The Holidays, these guys are well on their way up the name dropping list. Supporting Little Red on their current tour, they are about to join Yves Klein Blue, for the upcoming Immaculate conception Tour. So far The Holidays have one EP to their name. After seeing them rock the Corner on Friday, I am anticipating a killer debut album. With tight music, catchy sounds and intelligent lyrics The Holidays are a band I recommend catching live.

Little Red wasted no time in jump starting their set for the evening, beginning with a few chords behind closed curtains to incite the anticipation of what was a phenomenal show. Playing musical microphones during the entire set the guys are so intrinsically woven together in a great little indie rock quilt of delight.

Rocking out now well known tunes of Witch Doctor, Misty I and It’s Alright, Little Red have learnt how to hold their crowd and keep them rocking, though relatively calmly to every song. The biggest tribute to the boys was the litter of people from the support acts through the crowd passionately singing and moving along to every word and beat.

Audience participation can be a total cringe when they crowd isn’t into it, however when they are passionate fans who have bought tickets to a sold out show, the band is right to expect that participation will be well received and enjoyed. These guys are so well trained now from their massive mainstream success this year that I didn’t even notice the request for participation in at least two of their songs.

The encore was the final kick to leave everyone buzzing for some time on, joined by the excited trio of The Bull Horns. Firmly marking their place in the Melbourne music scene with sold out show, they have put on another show due to popular demand, as well as just completing a huge tour of the east coast. Little Red are well worth the Listen.
