Regurgitator are one of those bands that even if you don’t think you know them all that well you do. I forgot just how many of their songs I actually knew and loved until I saw the guys play again. Loyal fans trekked their way out into the sticks at the back end of Frankston to see the guys up on stage rocking and punking and poping the night away.
Playing a few old songs and lots of new stuff from their sixth album release Love And Paranoia the energy of the night was high and the crowd lapped it up. As always the Pen Lounge holds just about the weirdest group of people you could get together in one room and I do mean that in the nicest way possible being a native and all. There’s leather, plaid, thongs, boots, heels, minis, hoodies and wife beater singlets all thrown into the mix. Yeah, says me, whose mum wanted to come along for the night, the closeted 'Polyester Girl' fan that she is.
Quite honestly it was the second time I have see The Gurge live, the first time being at a massively but wonderfully over crowded pumped up St Kilda Festival performance which I found to be thoroughly more entertaining than this tiny stage show. I am however always overcome by just how much noise these guys can make on stage. Their style, which incorporates just about everything you can get your hands on since the sample just about every style there is, is very deceiving. They well and truly delivery each time they perform never leaving their fans disappointed. 'My Ego' being a massive hit of the night getting everyone jumping up and down bopping around singing if not shouting out the chorus no encouragement needed whatsoever!
Support band I Heart Hiroshima touring also from Brisbane did a fine job playing to a quarter filled room of dedicated punctual fans. Being only the first of many stops in this tour the guys as a collective have a long rocking way to go.
