I arrived a bit late for Rebecca Barnard, but i saw about the last 4 or 5 songs.
I've always thought Rebecca was an underated singer I've been a fan since her Rebeccas Empire days and she played So Rude and at the end of the set under my personal request she played Atomic Electric which I hadn't heard in years, so it was already a good start to the night.
Tim and Tex slump onto stage without a care in the world and vague setlist, tonight was about drinking, telling a few camp fire stories and two of the best rock and roll roustabouts doing what they do best playing damn fine music.
The rapport between the two was laid back and jovial as you would expect, they would drop kick verses back and forth towards each other. It was a Vegas show done T N T style some of the stories they told through out the night were about padded jocks and hotel trashing. Tim seemed pretty happy when he was telling us a story about living out a Rock and Roll dream of his that included bouncing T.V.'s off hotel walls.
Some of the great covers they did were a beautifully dark version of C'mon And Love Me by Kiss which morphed into Black Fingernails Red Wine by Eskimo Joe, which if you think about it sort of have a bit in common with the imagery in the songs, Black fingernails, Kiss: Make up, I dont know where I was going with that.
One of the other covers they did was Pay Cheques which really summed up the night, with the verse Fridays For Funerals, Saturdays Is For Brides,Guess Ill Take Sunday's As Mine, Turning Pay Cheques Into Wine. Everything in that song defines what Tex and Tim are about, women, drinking and love, with a mighty big dose of Rock and roll thrown in.
At the end of the first set, as Tex was walking off stage he smacked his head on a speaker hidden behind some curtains, but as a rock and roll trooper he soldiered on, the bump was quite noticeable I told him that he was bleeding a bit and that turned into a story about how Tex went on stage one night and was told buy a punter that his dick was hanging out.
Thats the best thing about Tex and Tim there's always a sense of unpredictability about there shows no two are evrer the same.
One of the most amusing songs of the night was My Vagina which seemed to be improvised, but I'm not sure.
Tex and Tim share drinks, they share smokes and they share some of the finest music this country has to offer.
