While we waited in the wings for Twelve Foot Ninja to come onstage, the room quickly swelled to near capacity with punters, fans and ninja’s alike. Around 10.30, the four-piece took to the stage, clad in black with ninja masks and contacts ready to tell the story of the Twelve Foot Ninja. Fans in costume dominated the front row, reaching out their hands.
With style and class they ripped into their set. As the beats pounded straight through the crowd, I launched myself into the mania that unfolded around me. The band came together across a diverse range of styles and influences, keeping us on our toes, dancing around funk, ska, metal, and filthy electro beats tied together with glorious glorious rock. The ebb and flow of the Twelve Foot Ninja left us wanting more and song after song, they delivered.
Vocalist Kin held the crowd from beginning to end with a quiet confidence you can afford when you’re that good; he occasionally stepped out of the light allowing our attention divert to a shredding solo or jazzy breakdown. The set was over all too quickly, and as I stood stunned with my eyes fixed on the stage, the lights faded and they slipped away into the night. I was amazed to hear that Twelve Foot Ninja sold twice as much merch as the second top selling band on the night. Not bad for a band that has been on the scene for less than a year.
My mission had been worth the wait and worth the spend, and as I walked away from The Corner I knew that ‘til our paths cross again, I will be dreaming of my next encounter with Twelve Foot Ninja.
